The Hard Rock Riviera Maya is located south of the Hotel Zone along the Yucatan’s Riviera Maya. It’s made up of two properties – the family section at Hacienda and the adults-only section at Heaven. The more remote location makes it the perfect choice for those who enjoy a natural setting away from the tourist areas.

What We Love

  • Woodward indoor skateboarding and BMX riding park, Rockaway Bay Waterpark and KIDZ BOP music activities
  • Five swimming pools, including an adults-only one in the Heaven section
  • Robert von Hagge-designed golf course and a jogging trail
  • Outside of the touristy Hotel Zone in a tropical setting with closer access to Tulum and Cozumel

Being from the same family, both resorts offer a lot of the same special amenities and packages. There’s an add-on package that’s designed for families with babies and young children. Items include babysitting services, high chairs, in-room crib and other items. This is available at both resorts so you can’t go wrong whether you choose Hard Rock Cancun or Riviera Maya.

The Hard Rock Cancun has five restaurants, several bars, a fitness center, a large oceanfront pool with an infinity edge and swim-up bars, a teen club and a kids’ club with a pool and water slides. There are two outdoor hydro spa tubs, including one for adults-only. There’s also a tennis court, a basketball court and a spa. The amphitheater has nightly entertainment. Members and VIPs can enjoy two rooftop pools.

The Hard Rock Riviera Maya has nine restaurants, several bars and lounges and five pools that include a kids’ pool, an adults-only one and a zero-entry one. There’s also a nearby 18-hole golf course. Then there’s that water park and Woodward sports park.

Families can enjoy pool parties, music sessions and nightly live entertainment. You can also borrow a Fender guitar for a day and participate in music lessons.

Both resorts offer music sessions where you can play in a jam band, star in a music video or learn to mix and spin like a DJ.

If you’re wondering which resort has better nightlife and entertainment for teens and tweens, I’ll have to go with Hard Rock Cancun. The amphitheater has lots of nightly entertainment and live music. There are also pool parties and other events for teens.

Hard Rock Riviera Maya probably has better grown-up nightlife (with the many bars and adult-only Heaven section). But if you’re looking for under-21 entertainment, you’ll be happy with the Hard Rock Cancun.

For Mom and Dad

While the kids are off having fun, Mom and Dad can relax at the Hard Rock Cancun’s spa, shop for souvenirs at the Rock Shop or enjoy drinks by the pool and beach. Lounges offer DJs, drinks and billiards.

Hard Rock Riviera Maya has a spa that offers wraps, massages and other body treatments. Enjoy DJs, dancing and cocktails at Club Heaven. Relax and mingle at Dive, the swim-up bar in the adults-only section of the resort. Play a round of golf on the nearby 18-hole Robert-von Hagge course.

Both resorts have a Body Rock fitness center and a salon, which makes a great spot to get gussied up for destination weddings, anniversaries and other special events.

Can teens access any of the adults-only amenities? If they’re over 18, they can stay in the Heaven section of the property or use the adults-only pools.
